Ryan Gosling gives a good performance, given the vapid script. Special effects are unable to make up for the flimsy story that defies logic. Many alligators come over the transom...one small example is the inexplicable manner in which full communication is established with Ryan's space buddy Rock. The science is all sketchy. Sad.

The neg reviewers are a joke. Worse movie you've seen? Not transformers? Or Lost in Translation? If you have even a mild enjoyment of sci-fi, you'll enjoy the movie. If you loved the book, you'll enjoy the movie. It's a closer adaptation than the Martian was and the effects are almost entirely practical. If your biggest issue is that a person in low-gravity space doesn't use a comb, you have bigger problems than this movie.

I loved every bit of Hail Mary. Great acting, story and everything. I do not care for the theater (noisy others, seat being kicked), but I am so glad that I saw this on the Big Screen

Serious subject matters which could be challenging to some young adults, teens are raised including the end of the world, death, suicide, forced compliance by government employees of an unwanted medical shot, stuck in space, unable to return to home. Otherwise, a sort of family friendly sometimes light-hearted movie: no swear words, no nudity, no sex, no drugs (except an unbelievable brief mention by an astronaut of a concoction of sorts she wishes to die from). Long movie. I like Ryan Gosling, the main actor, who also serves as a producer of the movie. Hollywood still must be doing something right if they can make movie goers cry over a rock. Good ending.

Just so you complainers know. There was no AI or computer CGI used at all not even once all the money was spent for real sets for a real experience. Too bad you can’t appreciate.

First of all too long and frankly because of that became boring. Lots of special effects like many sci-fi movies. Nothing that special though. Ryan did a good job given the material he was given. If I knew then what I know now….I would not have gone to the movie. Should have looked at the trailer.

I will say that I’m not a science fiction movie lover, but this was a story of connection and friendship. It delivered in that regard. Ryan Gosling was amazing, as was his costar. I just loved it.

Same plot twist as Adam Sandler space movie from last year. Too long.

If I thought Wuthering Heights was the worst movie so far this year - I had not counted on seeing HAIL MARY chaos. Gads -geez- how boring, I could not wait for this farce to be thru so I could go home. It's downright beyond horrible. Talking to a rock makes good sense I guess. UGH

I really liked The Martian, so I thought I would like this movie and I was not disappointed! I was never a fan of Ryan Gosling until I saw Lars and the Real Girl and then Barbie and The Grey Man. He is the obvious centre of the film and does a fantastic job. The woman who recruited him was as steely cold as she needed to be. There was just the right amount of humour and tears. Even if you don't understand the science, they absolutely tried to dumb it down for us and it made sense. From learning to speak with the alien, to trying to figure out the problem, they did a great job of speeding up the process for us but showing us it did take quite a bit of time to do all the things required. I think whoever is saying negative comments is likely just a bot trying to drive down the review score. See for yourself.
