Great performances by two veteran actors. I think this movie can be understood and appreciated only by people who have been married through to their senior years. There is a nice little story twist towards the end: a deeply human and thoughtful story element. I don't think you can get much closer to life-long human truth in relationships, yet it is gentle and hopeful. Any one who has had a loving relationship for much of their lifetime should see this. It sheds light on deep, subtle trials people face. I think the performances are at a lifetime achievement level. Will it pass by the academy awards? Maybe. But it shouldn't.

Wow, such harsh negative reviews! Maybe it hit a nerve? I'm giving an extra star for that! I quite enjoyed the romp through Amsterdam. I agree with the 5-star review below, and how marriages can become dull if we don't work at it. And Marriage takes a lot of work, sacrifice, forgiveness and communication. I thought it was a realistic portrayal of a long lasting marriage - ups, downs, distance, intimacy, brokenness, resentments, unresolved issues, all while putting up a good front. I think the end was awesome - he finally opened up and shared his heart, which was absolutely endearing and hope-filled, and probably life-saving for the Marriage.

It’s a story about how silence can destroy a relationship even after 30 years. There are so many interesting themes in this movie…I didn’t find it depressing. It’s a realistic portrayal of what happens when we can’t deal effectively with things that are bothering us.The torment being felt by the couple was obvious even though to the outside world it would appear they had the perfectly “happy” long lasting marriage The two main characters played their roles effectively and there was a lot of chemistry between them. I am glad the ending didn’t wrap everything up with a neat little bow,but left room for a lot of hope. Loved it! The setting made you feel like you were right in the European city with them.
