  I'm rating this movie 5 stars mainly because of Chadwick Boseman. He gave an amazing, nuanced, heartfelt performance. He definitely should win the Oscar for this. But Viola Davis as Ma Rainey? Why was Ma Rainey so detestable? Why did she look like a circus freak? I was thinking, if I had seen this when I was young, I would have had nightmares for weeks. They showed photos of the real Ma Rainey after, she didn't have makeup smudged all over her face. She looked really nice. Not sure why they wanted to make the title character so unlikeable.
