Oprah gives the worst performance of the year, and the movie itself is a big snooze.

Best performance by a male actor this year so far. Forest may be adding another Oscar to his trophy case. Look for Oprah to get an Oscar nod as well.

This movie takes you on a journey through the past from the 1920's to the Civil rights era of the 60's to the year 2008. Following the personal journey of the Butler (as played by Forest Whittaker) from his early days, working on a southern cotton farm to his life as a butler,in Washington D.C. (the White House)becomes a gripping story. The movie has a redeeming social message about civil rights in america and delivers it in a contemporary style with humor, wit and great emotion.

The story is good and compelling, of course, but some truly great performances are the highlight of this movie. Oprah blew me away - really. Forest Whitaker, Cuba Gooding Jr and Terence Howard were excellent. Alan Rickman (severus Snape) played Ronald Reagan so on target and even Jane Fonda (Nncy Reagan) stood out. The actors were digging deep. Any sweeping historical drama can't include everything so I won't quibble about the parts I would have liked covered more. Lee Daniels chose his history through the lens of which presidencies had the most impact on blacks and that's fair. It is worth seeing and I liked the big screen myself.

Excellent movie. A great history lesson on how brutal whites were towards black people. Forrest Whitaker once again proves he is a top actor in Hollywood.

Educational and eye-opening. No filthy cursing! And Oprah was fantastic as usual.

Just saw it, and I'm still gathering my thoughts. Incredible cast all through but Oprah and Forrest ares truly outstanding. So much history was covered that I forgot time. I'm so glad we're not where we were when it started, but we have a long way to go still. At least there are many of us white folk who want equality for everyone. Beautifully and thoroughly told with a great script. Enjoy!
