The movie was a mix of what felt like a documentary, and social commentary/awareness and breaking the 4th wall minor buddy comedy. At first, I did not know what to make of it, but then I came to understand it. So much going on. Old Disillusioned, grizzled paramedic who is clearly burning out and could snap at anytime, and a relative newish partner who is certainly becoming seasoned and going through some newbies who are either going to hack it, or they don't. You have the wage disparency between Doctors, nurses, check in reception, physio, etc...and on the extreme low-end are the paramedics and what they have to endure as the front lines. It clearly shows EVERYONE in that sort of field has their stresses (ie: when the doctor ranted about all of the hospital's stresses he deals with)..and the paramedics dealing with people who scam the system for a meal or sleep or meds, and those who really need it from the young to the old as well as a scene with a mental health patient who was this 6'6" big black dude and the 3 white police officers who showed up and this was more of a scene where 2 different first responders showed up for the same all and how one did their best to diffuse the situation and the other was shoot first and resolve it quickly. Guess which was which. Then the Paramedic's years of knowledge teaching the newbie some REALLY important lessons and she also saw how stressful the paramedic's jobs really are by spending a day in their shoes. THAT was a regular day! You leave the movies with more respect and hoping people who have the ability to make change (ie: wages to work hours 24hrs is crazy, to mental health assistance for the 1st responders etc...) will do something about it. Worth a watch and Raine Wilson does a believable job as a paramedic at the end of his sanity and I totally believed that he must have been one in a previous life. Great job.
