The duo faced off for the vacant featherweight title last April at UFC 314 in Miami, with Volkanovski earning a unanimous decision victory to reclaim in the throne in the 145-pound weight class. Lopes subsequently put himself back at the top of the list of contenders with a second-round stoppage win over surging Brazilian Jean Silva in the main event of Noche UFC in September, setting up this epic rematch in Australia.
