PR guru Agatha Raisin (Ashley Jensen) decides to retire and buy a cottage in the village of Carsley, in the Cotswolds, where she has fond memories of camping with her parents. At first, the stylish newcomer has a hard time fitting in, but when there's a murder and she solves it herself, with the help of her former co-worker Roy Silver (Mathew Horne) and her new cleaner, Gemma Simpson (Katy Wix), she begins to make friends.
Meanwhile, as it becomes clear that a younger man, police officer Bill Wong (Matt McCooey) has a crush on her, she sets her eyes on her next door neighbor's visiting brother, James Lacey (Jamie Glover). Agatha grows more and more confident in her abilities as a detective as she discovers a hidden talent for solving murders.
