Looking for Johnny: The Legend of Johnny Thunders Synopsis

Looking for Johnny: The Legend of Johnny Thunders covers Johnny Thunders’ career from his debut in the early 1960s as a member of New York Dolls band to his demise in New Orleans, where he died under mysterious circumstances in 1991.

Consisting of interviews with the people who were closest to the legendary hard-living musician, the film builds a compelling narrative drawn from first-hand testimonials. The film examines Johnny’s life starting as a founding member of the influential New York Dolls, the birth of the punk scene with The Heartbreakers, following with such bands as Gang War and The Oddballs. It also explores Johnny’s musical style, his battle with drugs and the circumstances of his death at age 38 in 1991 at hotel in New Orleans.
