Heaven Adores You: An Elliot Smith Project Synopsis

An intimate look at the art and influence of American singer and songwriter Elliott Smith, left behind following his tragic death in 2003. By threading together the memories of those closest to Elliott, musical performances and the images of the three major cites he lived in throughout his short life—Portland, New York and Los Angeles—the film offers a visual journey and a close look at the singer's prolific songwriting and the impact he had on his fans and fellow musicians.

The film opens in 1998, a year when Elliott receives an Oscar nomination for his song "Miss Misery" for Gus Van Sant’s film Good Will Hunting. The narrative then moves to the day Elliott died, October 21, 2003, offering shots of the Elliott Smith Memorial Wall in Los Angeles. At the conclusion, Heaven Adores You is a view of an accomplished talent—a view that places music at the center of Elliott Smith’s legacy.
